An unlicensed Brooklyn man was arrested for drunken driving and a slew of other charges after crashing into two vehicles — including a Riverhead cop car on Sound Avenue, town police said.

The crash happened at the same time but was unrelated to Monday evening’s big All for the East End concert at Martha Clara Vineyards, police said.

Police received a 911 call about an erratic driver speeding eastbound about 9:15 p.m., according to a report.

Theodore Gavalez, 46, allegedly crashed into one vehicle and continued to drive eastbound when he crashed into an unmarked police unit being driven by Lt. David Lessard, police said. Police said Mr. Gavalez was not a concertgoer.

Lt. Lessard was not injured during the incident, officials said.

Mr. Gavalez was arrested for DWI, as well as third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, resisting arrest, and leaving the scene of two motor vehicle accidents, according to a report.

He was arraigned Tuesday morning and released after posting $10,000 bail, police said.

Mr. Gavalez was due back in court Wednesday.

Two suspects are in custody at Riverhead police headquarters in relation to this morning’s reported armed robbery at CVS, according to police.

The duo – whose names were not released by police yet – are set to be arraigned at Riverhead Town Justice Court.

Oliver said one of the suspects was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, and the other a green bandana.

The same CVS was robbed in mid-January after police said at the time that two men entered the store around 3:30 a.m. and forced an employee to open a safe at gunpoint. Police have not reported any arrests in relation to the robbery.

Police were called shortly after 7 a.m. on Wednesday to the pharmacy after someone reportedly brandished a gun in the store, and ended up fleeing north on foot.

JENNIFER GUSTAVSON PHOTO | Paul Thompson is led into Riverhead Town Justice court during an arraignment proceeding last month.

JENNIFER GUSTAVSON PHOTO | Paul Thompson is led into Riverhead Town Justice court during an arraignment proceeding last month.

A Calverton man accused his pregnant girlfriend of cheating on him with his brother before beating and stabbing her at Tanger Outlets last month, holding her hostage and threatening to kill her during the assault, prosecutors said at the man’s arraignment in Suffolk County criminal court Thursday afternoon.

Paul Thompson Jr., 24, was arraigned on a 10-count grand jury indictment as his family looked on and is now being held at Suffolk County jail on $100,000 cash bail.

He was charged with second-degree assault and grand larceny, both felonies, as well as misdemeanor counts including menacing, criminal obstruction of breath, petit larceny and unlawful imprisonment.

Mr. Thompson — who had been arrested eight times before the incident, including one “violent felony” — went shopping at the outlet center with his 23-year-old girlfriend the night of Sept. 28, said assistant district attorney Eric Aboulafia during the arraignment.

But as the couple was getting back into his girlfriend’s car, Mr. Thompson accused her of cheating on him with his brother, Mr. Aboulafia said.

When she denied the accusation, Mr. Thompson began to hit her in the face, prosecutors said.

“During the beating, the defendant told her he wished she wasn’t pregnant,” Mr. Aboulafia added.

Mr. Thompson then allegedly forced the victim to drive to an area behind the outlets, where he pulled a knife from the back seat of the car and “threatened to kill her on multiple occasions,” prosecutors said. He stabbed her multiple times in her leg while inside the car, Mr. Aboulafia said.

Mr. Thompson then held the knife to her throat and forced her to drive to his uncle’s house, prosecutors said. He allegedly took away her car keys, cellphone and credit card, but she was able to escape near Midway Drive, locking herself into a nearby family’s home.

The family let her call the police and the victim was rushed to Peconic Bay Medical Center, where she required surgery to repair a ruptured artery, Mr. Aboulafia said.

Mr. Thompson — who was also wanted for a violation of probation — was arrested by Riverhead Town police in Mastic the next day. In court, Mr. Thompson stood silently near the bench in a green jumpsuit as the assistant district attorney described him as a ”violent felon with a history of crime.”

Mr. Thompson’s legal aid attorney, Ed Vitale, acknowledged that Mr. Thompson was already being held on the probation violation, and asked that bail be set so Mr. Thompson could begin to accrue time served.

Judge William Condon set bail at $100,000 cash, or $200,000 bond.

As Mr. Thompson was led away by security officers, his mother, Tara, stood up in court and told him, “Love you.”

“I don’t condone what he did, but the truth will come out,” she said outside the courtroom. “He’s not the monster you see in the newspaper.”

Ms. Thompson also said she was concerned with how the victim was recovering.

“We used to talk all the time,” she said. “Now — it’s understandable.”

Other family members said Mr. Thompson had moved on from the relationship at the time of the incident and said the girlfriend who was allegedly attacked at Tanger Outlets had accosted him multiple times in the past.

Mr. Thompson is due back in court on Nov. 7.

TRAVIS JAMES MUG SHOT

TRAVIS JAMES MUG SHOT

A Riverhead man accused of choking and smothering his girlfriend during a fight last August, then making threatening calls to her in violation of an order of protection, has been convicted on all 11 charges against him.

Travis James, 32, was found guilty of aggravated criminal contempt, harassment and criminal obstruction of breath by a jury in Suffolk County criminal court Thursday, according to online court records.

Prosecutors said Mr. James was a “serial abuser” who physically and emotionally abused his girlfriend, even after she was granted an order of protection.

On Aug. 4, Mr. James got into an argument with his girlfriend at their house on Fanning Boulevard, and “put both of his hands around her neck and threw her onto her bed,” said District Attorney Thomas Spota. Mr. James then held her on the bed and put a throw pillow over her face, “obstructing her breathing for several seconds,” Mr. Spota said.

Mr. James also sent a “threatening message to his ex-girlfriend, through an emissary, to not come to court,” Mr. Spota said.

“Our evidence presented at this bench trial also included proof the defendant repeatedly made harassing phone calls to the victim in violation of the order of protection,” Mr. Spota said.

In 2009, Mr. James was arrested and charged with burglary and harrassment after he allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend’s house in Hampton Bays soon after being released from jail, according to a previous report in the News-Review. Mr. James stole a video camera from the house and called the ex several times by phone after being asked not to, Southampton Town police said at the time.

Prosecutors said Mr. James pleaded guilty to two counts of felony criminal contempt in March 2010. Because of that conviction, he will be sentenced as a repeat offender by county Judge William Condon on Dec. 23.

The most serious of the 11 guilty counts, a class D felony, carries a maximum sentence of seven years in state prison.

He is being held in Suffolk County jail on $250,000 cash bail.
