A 23-year-old Riverhead woman was arrested Saturday afternoon after attempting to stab another woman, Riverhead Town Police said.
Police charged Tasheeya Williams with second-degree assault, a felony, shortly after the incident, according to a report.
The victim, 33-year-old Tashiea Trent of Flanders, entered the lobby of the Riverhead Police Department with a laceration on her left hand at about 3:45 p.m., police said. Ms. Trent told police that Ms. Williams assaulted her in the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex, River Pointe Apartments on East Main Street.
Ms. Williams allegedly confronted Ms. Trent and attempted to stab her, police said. During a brief struggle, Ms. Trent suffered a laceration to her left hand. Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance members responded to the police station and transported Ms. Trent to Peconic Bay Medical Center where she received stitches on her hand.
Police located Ms. Williams shortly afterward on East Main Street and she was apprehended without incident.
Ms. Williams is being held awaiting arraignment Sunday morning.
It’s unclear what provoked Ms. Williams to attack Ms. Trent or whether the two knew each other.
